Blue smoke means the engine is burning oil. It reduces power, increases fuel cost and shortens engine service life. Below are the main causes and solutions for your daily used engines.
1、Worn piston rings (Most common)
Piston rings cannot scrape oil off cylinder walls. Oil enters combustion chamber and burns. Long mileage engines like Toyota 2AZ-FE, Nissan KA24DE usually have this issue after 150,000 km+.
2、Damaged valve oil seals
Oil leaks down from valve stems into cylinders. Blue smoke is obvious during cold start and acceleration. This fault exists in almost all old petrol engines.
3、Turbo leakage (Diesel engines)
For Cummins 6BT1, 6CT1, 6L and Isuzu 4JB1 with turbo, damaged turbo seals will lead to oil entering intake pipe and burning.
Practical Solutions
Minor oil burning: Use high-viscosity engine oil to relieve the problem temporarily.
Serious oil burning: Disassemble engine to replace piston rings and valve seals.
