This 7.8L inline six-cylinder heavy-duty common rail engine has a huge market stock volume with typical inherent faults. The EGR cooler is prone to carbon clogging and internal leakage, which causes abnormal coolant loss, white smoke on cold start and oil-water mixing. The injectors are highly sensitive to diesel fuel quality; inferior fuel will cause needle valve sticking and poor atomization, resulting in rough idle, black smoke under heavy load and sharp power drop. Long-time idling accelerates oil seal aging and oil leakage of the turbocharger, leading to sharply increased oil consumption.
